NYC Seed Start Summer 2010 Program Update
March 17, 2010 # 8:48 am # NYC SeedStart Program # 4 CommentsIn February it was announced that the NYC Seed Start Summer 2010 Program was being created and would soon be accepting applications. As this is the inaugural year the founders of the program were cautiously optimistic about the number of applications that would be received. I am pleased to let you know that 202 applications were submitted for our review. This far exceeded our expectations and clearly sent the message that there is a pent-up demand for this type of program in NYC. While the majority of submissions were from the NY Metro area and Northeast corridor, there were a number of applications from the Southeast, Mid-West and West coast. And somewhat surprisingly from 7 countries including Estonia! It was also interesting to see the diversity of markets that these companies were targeting. They included: social ecommerce, tele medicine, application development tools, energy technologies, early stage drug discovery, on-line learning, cloud computing security, just to name a few.
Last week Owen Davis-NYC Seed, Jim Robinson IV-RRE Ventures, Matt Goran-Contour Ventures, Roger Ehrenberg-IA Ventures, Jalak Jobanputra-NYC Investment Fund and I reviewed all the applications and narrowed down the list to the 20-25 applications whose founders will be invited to NY for an interview. From this list we will identify the winners who will be coming to NY for the summer to participate in the program. The finalists will be announced in April.
A big thanks should go out to Owen Davis for the coordination of this program.
